About me
Dr. Farr earned his bachelor’s degree in finance from Louisiana State University and both his MD and MPH from the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in 2011. He completed his Internal Medicine and Pediatrics residency training at Harvard-affiliated Mass General Hospital in Boston, MA in 2015.
Dr. Farr returned to UTMB as a faculty member with appointments in the Internal Medicine, Pediatrics and the School of Public and Population Health. Since returning to UTMB, Dr. Farr has held leadership positions in both graduate and undergraduate medical education. He has served as a course director in multiple courses in the school of medicine and previously served as the Assistant Dean of Educational Affairs and Director of the Office of Clinical Education, responsible for oversight of clinical education for the school of medicine.
He currently serves as the Assistant Provost of Community Engagement and Education, as an Associate Program Director for the Internal Medicine residency program, and as Medical Director of St. Vincent’s Hope Clinic. In his role as Assistant Provost, he is responsible for the leadership of implementing interprofessional community engagement practice activities for all UTMB health education programs through partnerships with the UTMB Health System and community organizations and running a network of free clinics on Galveston Island. He continues to practice both Internal Medicine and Pediatrics precepting medical students and residents.
Recognized for excellence in teaching, Dr. Farr holds the title of University of Texas Distinguished Teaching Professor and was selected as a William Osler Scholar of The John P. McGovern Academy of Oslerian Medicine. He has received numerous teaching and community service honors—including the James W. Powers Memorial Award for contributions to shaping empathetic, well-rounded physicians—and has been appointed to several prestigious UTMB committees. In addition, he has produced award-winning education scholarship for his work on curriculum development.
Dr. Farr is a co-PI in a 2-year $1MM community-based research project on combatting the substance use epidemic funded through a local foundation. Dr. Farr has been a recipient of multiple grants to facilitate the implementation of innovative care programs including in providing high-risk post-hospitalization care, heart failure care in the community setting, and with pulmonary rehabilitation services for the uninsured.
Dr. Farr’s academic interests include harnessing the resources of an academic medical center through promoting value-added education, interprofessional community engagement, service-learning, and enhancing undergraduate and graduate medical education curriculum in the areas of clinical reasoning, health systems sciences and the humanities. Through his multifaceted roles, Dr. Farr remains dedicated to improving community health outcomes and ensuring the next generation of medical professionals is well-equipped to deliver compassionate, high-quality, and innovative care.
Dr. Farr’s prior experience as an international consultant and internal auditor for a Big Four accounting firm and several Fortune 500 companies informs his strategic approach to healthcare innovation and medical education. He enjoys spending time with his family and traveling.
